Why this port matters
Cannes is your gateway to the Côte d'Azur — the stretch of coast that has, for two centuries, represented the European art of living by the sea. With twelve hours ashore, this is your most flexible port day, and the one where distance really opens up.
Brief history
A modest fishing village until 1834, when an English aristocrat — stopped at the border by a cholera quarantine — wintered here, fell in love, and built a villa. Aristocratic Europe followed. The Cannes Film Festival, conceived in 1939 as a democratic answer to fascist-controlled Venice, finally launched in 1946.
Highlights
- La Croisette — Belle Époque palaces (Carlton, Martinez, Majestic) and private beach plages
- Le Suquet (Old Town) — medieval hill above the port, with the best sunset view of the bay
- Vieux-Port — sailing yachts, fishermen at dawn, café terraces all day
- Marché Forville — the real food market of Cannes, a few blocks inland
- Lérins Islands — 15-minute boat to Sainte-Marguerite (Iron Mask) and Saint-Honorat (monastery wine)

Timing note
Twelve hours (8:00 AM – 8:00 PM) is the most generous port day of the voyage. Cannes is a tender port — a shuttle boat ferries Sailors from ship to Quai Laubeuf, so build 20 minutes each way into your timing.
